FALMOUTH — The Police Department is cautioning residents to be on alert because of a recent increase in burglaries.

In the past three weeks, the department said in a press release Friday, there has been an increase in home burglaries, especially between 8 a.m. and 2 p.m., and car burglaries, particularly during the early morning hours after midnight.

Police said residents should lock their doors and windows when not at home and make sure first-floor windows and doors are locked at night. Car doors should be locked, as well, and owners should not leave valuables in their cars.

For additional safety information, visit the Police Department Web site. If residents see or hear any suspicious activity, they are asked to notify the department at 781-4242.
