FALMOUTH — Former state Representative John Brautigam, 48, of Falmouth, has been appointed the Maine Public Utilities Commission’s new director of the Energy Programs Division.
His duties will include oversight of the State Energy Program, which administers federal renewable energy grants, and Efficiency Maine, a program to help the state’s residents and businesses reduce energy costs and improve the environment.
While in the state Legislature, Brautigam was a member of the Joint Committee on Utilities and Energy. He also introduced a bill that created a state incentive for for the installation of solar energy systems as well as legislation requiring the MPUC to consider costs and benefits of the state’s continued participation in the regional energy grid.
A graduate of the Stanford University Law School, Brautigam has served in private practice, with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission and as an assistant attorney general for the state of Maine.
