Falmouth girls’ basketball coach Mari Warner (left) and players Emma Powers and Dayna Vasconcelos represented the Yachtsmen at the March 7 Maine McDonald’s Basketball Banquet in Bangor where they were named the Maine Red Claws/Maine McDonald’s girls’ “Team of the Year.” Local McDonald’s operator Marty Eckmann (far right) presented the honor, which comes with $1,000 for the basketball program. One girls’ and one boys’ team (Easton) is honored each year for making an exceptional impact on Maine high school basketball and the lives of others through contribution to community, exemplifying sportsmanship, team competitiveness and spirit and commitment to academic excellence. The Yachtsmen were honored in part for their preseason Taylor Tip-Off, a fundraiser for children affected by domestic violence.
“We were thrilled to win the award,” Warner said. “My pride for the Taylor Tip-Off is immeasurable. The commitment these players and their families make toward this cause is phenomenal.”
