FALMOUTH — There will be several ceremonies in the area Friday, Nov. 11, to commemorate Veterans Day.
Falmouth and American Legion Post 164 will host the annual Veterans Day Ceremony at 11 a.m. at 65 Depot Road, at the Falmouth Veterans Memorial. The ceremony will include a short speech from the post commander, lowering the flag to half-staff, and placing a wreath at the monument. The Falmouth Library Ukulele Society will play a medley of military songs.
Refreshments will be provided in the Falmouth Memorial Library, which is across the street behind the monument. In case of rain, the ceremony will be held at the American Legion, which is also close to the monument.
There will also be an open house at the American Legion from 2-4 p.m. Friday to celebrate the legion’s 70th anniversary in Falmouth. A members-only pot luck dinner will be held at 6 p.m.
In Freeport, a Veterans Day Concert is scheduled at 6 p.m. at the First Parish Church, 40 Main St. Performers will include the Regional School Unit 5 Middle School Chamber Choir, Cul De Sax, the Pine Tree Coastal Winds, and the Greater Freeport Community Chorus. The free event is sponsored by the church and American Legion Post 83.
In Yarmouth, a ceremony will take place at 11 a.m. on Memorial Green, which is front of Town Hall at 200 Main St. Flags will be raised and student musicians will also play “Taps.” The ceremony is organized by American Legion Post 91.
The North Yarmouth Veterans Memorial Park Corp. will hold a small ceremony on Veterans Day. The 8 a.m. event at the U.S. Route 9/Parsonage Road park, will include lowering flags to half staff. The flags will then be raised at sunset, then lowered to be removed for the winter.
