FALMOUTH — The Falmouth Education Foundation will host a Color Run on Sunday, Sept. 18.

Participants will run a 5-kilometer loop at the school campus on Woodville Road while wearing white shirts that don’t stay that way for long: runners are doused with colored powder at each kilometer.

FEF board member Susie Wrisley said the registration fee was $40, and by Monday all 550 spots had been filled. Check-in for the event is at 3:30 p.m., and the run starts an hour later.

“We have had a tremendous turnout,” Wrisley said.

Whitney Bruce, FEF president, said a board member suggested the event after having seen it used in other school districts. The event is organized by My School Color Run, which provides consulting services and receives $12 per participant.

FEF will keep the rest of the money raised, which works out to more than $15,000.

“We’ve been working on it since May,” Bruce said. She added that the Color Run will be taking the place of FEF’s annual auction, and that the organization wanted to “change things up.”

“It should be a fun, community celebration,” Bruce said.

Bruce said most of the proceeds will be used for grants to schools and other educational programs, such as Community Programs and Maine Audubon.
