Falmouth sophomore Sofie Matson was named Monday as Maine’s Gatorade Girls’ Cross Country Runner of the Year. Matson won the Class A state meet for a second straight year this past fall with a time of 18-minutes, 33.51-seconds. Matson also finished eighth at the Foot Locker Northeast Regional championships and she earned All-American status by finishing 14th at the Foot Locker Cross Country Championships with a time of 18:01.4. Matson was unbeaten against in-state opponents for a second straight year. Matson, an ‘A’ student, is also an accomplished clarinetist, has performed with the Portland Youth Wind Ensemble and the Portland Youth Symphony Orchestra and is also a member of the Falmouth High debate team and volunteers for the school paper.
