FALMOUTH — The Episcopal Church of Saint Mary will host a forum on the biology of addiction as part of its ongoing response to the opioid crisis.

The discussion, “The Hijacked Brain: The Biology of Addiction,” will be held 4-6 p.m. Sunday, April 28, at the church, 43 Foreside Road. It’s free and open to the public. Call 781-3366 for more information.

The guest speaker will be addiction specialist Dr. Mark Publicker, who was named a Top Doctor in Addiction Medicine in both 2014 and 2015 by Down East magazine. Publicker will also be joined by others who will speak about the impact of addiction on their personal lives.

The church launched its series, “Responding to Maine’s Opioid Crisis: Education, Compassion and Community,” in direct response to the state’s addiction crisis.

A third presentation, which will focus on ways the community can help break barriers to recovery by providing jobs, transportation and housing to those facing substance abuse disorder, is scheduled June 9.
