FALMOUTH — A local business has opened a new spot for residents to recharge their batteries.

Their electric car batteries, that is.

On Monday, TideSmart Global opened a first-of-its-kind, solar-powered public electric vehicle charging station at its corporate campus on Route 1. The power station is available free of charge to the community.

The 208-volt station is capable of charging an electric vehicle eight times faster than a standard outlet, according to TideSmart. It pulls its power supply from the rooftop solar panels at TideSmart and can supply power for all electric cars and plug-in hybrids that use a standard connection.
