FALMOUTH — Construction on the Leighton Road bridge will continue past the project’s anticipated completion date due to material delays and manpower obstacles over the summer.

Work began Sept. 5 to replace the bridge deck and pavement, joints, concrete piers and abutments. It was expected to be finished by Oct. 31.

The Maine Department of Transportation on Tuesday said it now anticipates work will be completed by Thanksgiving week in late November.

Crews will be working increased hours, with more manpower, to ensure that the work is done quickly with minimal disruption for motorists, DOT said. For more information, visit MaineTurnpike.com.
