FALMOUTH — The Planning Board approved changing the use of a building at a Route 1 business from residential to commercial.

The building, at 91 Johnson Road, is part of TideSmart Global, a marketing firm owned by Yarmouth resident Steve Woods. Woods is also a columnist for The Forecaster.

The Nov. 3 Planning Board decision came after a previous board discussion in September, when the former owner of the building claimed an easement across the property. The Zoning Board of Appeals backed Woods’ request in July.

The building, which Woods has called the most energy efficient building in Maine, was originally zoned for residential use. Woods sought and was granted approval to change that use to commercial for additional office space.

The decision does not have to go before the Town Council.
