FALMOUTH — The town has received more than $50,000 in donations to establish a trail maintenance and trail development fund.

At its Nov. 14 meeting the Town Council formally accepted the money and agreed to create the new fund in recognition of the desire by many in town for the further creation of more multi-use trails on town-owned open space.

The fund was jump-started when a local mountain bike club raised and donated $50,000 for the fund. There is no timeline for expending the funds, as it will be a project-by-project endeavor.

Both town staff and the Land Management and Acquisitions Committee
recommended the creation of the trail fund, arguing it would “provide a benefit to the town and its many trail users,” the council said in a resolution.
