Another triumphant fall sports season is in the books and once again, athletes from Forecaster Country made headlines from start to finish.

As a result, many of Cape Elizabeth, Greater Portland Christian School, Scarborough and South Portland’s finest were named to postseason all-star teams.

Here’s a look:

Football

With all three local teams reaching the playoffs this fall, it’s no surprise that several players from each were named to the Southern Maine Activities Association and Western Maine Conference all-star squads. 

The SMAA first team offense featured Scarborough center Harry Motter, lineman Logan Mars and South Portland running back Joey DiBiase.

Scarborough running back Scott Thibeault and tight end Dave Concesion and South Portland wide receivers Logan Gaddar and Dan Medici made the second team offense.

The first team defense included South Portland defensive back Gaddar, linebacker Max Porter and tackle Liam Rottkov.

Scarborough linebacker Kellen Smith and punter Greg Viola, along with South Portland back Mike Salvatore, were named to the second team defense.

The SMAA All-Academic team included Scarborough’s Mars and Conor McCann and South Portland’s Gaddar, Medici and Salvatore.

South Portland’s Steve Stinson was selected the winner of the Mike Landry Award, as the league’s Coach of the Year.

In the WMC, the Class B first team included Cape Elizabeth senior running back Donald Clark, senior defensive tackle Andrew Lavallee, senior wide receiver/running back Derek Roberts, senior offensive lineman Matt Ross and junior defensive lineman Kyle Snowden.

Senior Billy Brooks and junior Connor Maguire were honorable mentions.

Semifinalists for the Fitzpatrick Trophy are expected to be named soon. The award, given to the state’s finest senior player, will be bestowed in January.

Boys’ soccer

Several local boys’ soccer standouts were selected to all-star teams.

In the SMAA, Scarborough junior forward Austin Downing, senior midfielder Andrew Jones and junior defender Chris Cleary and South Portland senior midfielder Nem Kaurin and senior defender Nate Fox made the first team.

The second team included Scarborough junior forward Dan Ornstein, senior defender John Blaisdell and sophomore goalkeeper Pat Stanton and South Portland junior forward Damian Draskovic and senior midfielder Akiba Davis.

South Portland senior goalkeeper Shawn Shannon was an honorable mention.

The SMAA All-Academic team included Scarborough’s Adam Cohen, John Herrman, Jones and John Passarelli and South Portland’s Will Bushey, Davis, Fox, Kaurin and Andy Mills.

In the WMC, Cape Elizabeth senior forward Tim Lavallee made the Class B first team.

Senior teammate Blake Barritt (midfield) was chosen for the second team.

Cape Elizabeth’s Brian Brett, Forest Hewitt, Lavallee and Ian McInerney qualified for the All-Academic team.

GPCS seniors Jordan Peters, Than Peterson and Adam Simpson (who also had an assist in the Senior Bowl) were named all-stars as well.

The Western A regional all-star team included Cape Elizabeth’s Lavallee (who had a goal in the Senior All-Star Game), Scarborough’s Downing and Jones and South Portland’s Kaurin.

GPCS’ Peters, Peterson and Simpson made the Western D regional squad.

All-State, All-New England, All-American and class Player of the Year selections will be announced following Sunday’s Maine Soccer Coaches’ banquet.

Girls’ soccer

The WMC girls’ all-star team featured Cape Elizabeth goalkeeper Ali Johnson, midfielder Maddie Riker and forward Melanie Vangel.

Johnson also qualified for the All-Academic team.

Senior midfielder Robin Waugh and junior forward Elaine Beech were named all-stars from GPCS. It was the third straight season Beech has been selected.

In the SMAA, Scarborough senior forward Haley Carignan (who had a goal in the Senior All-Star Game) and senior defender Emily Tolman made the first team.

Scarborough senior forward Meghan Tyson and South Portland forward Jenacee Bradbury and senior midfielder Emily Masters were named to the second team.

Honorable mentions included Scarborough junior midfielder Sarah Martens and South Portland junior midfielder Erin Bogdanovich and senior defender Anh Nguyen.

Scarborough’s Carignan, Kimberly Lancaster, Kaitlin Reynolds, Andrea Tolman and Emily Tolman and South Portland’s Siobhan Baker, Ashley Biggs, Libby Grant and Masters qualified for the SMAA All-Academic team.

Cape Elizabeth’s Riker and Vangel and Scarborough’s Carignan, Tyson and Emily Tolman were named to the Western A regional all-star team.

GPCS’ Beech and Waugh were named to the Western D squad.

All-State, All-New England, All-American and class Player of the Year selections will be announced following Sunday’s Maine Soccer Coaches’ banquet.

Field hockey

Local field hockey teams also produced all-stars.

In the SMAA, Scarborough placed Shauni Cowan and Kelsey Howard on the first team.

Scarborough’s Lindsay Dobecki and South Portland’s Olivia Edwards were named to the second team.

Scarborough’s Abby Walker and South Portland’s Michelle Medici were honorable mentions.

Howard won the Faith Littlefield Award.

The WMC Division I first team included Cape Elizabeth’s Bella Robinson.

Teammates Julianne Ayers and Maria Morris made the second team.

Cape Elizabeth’s Morris also qualified for the All-Academic team.

Scarborough’s Cowan and Howard were named to the Class A All-State team and also qualified for the Academic All-State team.

Cross country

The SMAA boys’ All-Conference cross country first team included sophomore Ian Morris and senior Nick Morris from league and Class A state champion Scarborough.

Scarborough junior Robby Hall and South Portland junior Ryan Tuttle made the second team.

Scarborough’s Adam Brown, Nick Morris and Wout Moulin and South Portland’s Izaak Onos and Sam Peluso qualified for the All-Academic team.

In the WMC, Cape Elizabeth’s Peter Doane qualified for the first team.

Teammate Liam Simpson made the second team.

Cape Elizabeth’s Thomas Robinson and Jacob Wasserman qualified for the All-Academic team.

Scarborough’s Nick Morris qualified for the All-State team.

On the girls’ side, Cape Elizabeth’s Ellen Best made the WMC first team.

Teammates Emma Inhorn, Noelle Webster and Catherine Tierney were second teamers.

Cape Elizabeth’s Victoria Brigham qualified for the All-Academic team.

In the SMAA, South Portland junior Nyajock Pan made the first team.

Scarborough’s Maggie Smith was an honorable mention selection.

Scarborough’s Haela Booth-Howe and Mary Scott and South Portland’s Kateri Jeffery qualified for the All-Academic team.

South Portland’s Pan was an All-State honorable mention.

Golf

The SMAA Northern division golf all-star first team featured Scarborough’s Dan Slavin.

Teammates Brendan Hall and Zach Pelczar made the second team.

Scarborough’s Kathleen Huffines and South Portland’s Elizabeth Canarie were girls’ all-stars.

Scarborough’s Pelczar and South Portland’s Canarie qualified for the All-Academic team.

In the WMC, Cape Elizabeth’s Reese McFarlane and Will LeBlond both made the all-star team.

Volleyball

Scarborough made it to the volleyball state match this fall and had senior standout Brittany Bona named to the all-state first team.

Scarborough’s Emily Robbins was named to the second team.
