SOUTH PORTLAND — The Casco Bay Bridge will have additional daily openings through March 5 for testing of the bridge and training of new employees.

The Maine Department of Transportation, which has operated the bridge since it was constructed nearly 20 years ago, in late December awarded a five-year, $3.8 million contract to Florida-based FDI Services to operate and maintain the bridge.

The frequency of the additional drawbridge openings will vary throughout the day and night, according to a Feb. 10 MDOT press release, and will not last more than seven minutes. On weekdays, the openings for testing and training will not be conducted from 7-9 a.m. and 3:30-6:30 p.m.
