PORTLAND — The Boys & Girls Clubs of Southern Maine has reopened its Riverton Park clubhouse after an expansion that now allows it to serve 60 children a day – a 50 percent increase.

With 3,000 square feet of space, the renovated clubhouse is open to children ages 5-13. A $5 annual membership fee is charged, but is waived for children who live in or around the Riverton Park housing project. Nearly 220 boys and girls are currently members.

The clubhouse, at 55 Riverton Drive, is open Monday through Friday, from 3-6 p.m. during the school year and for the entire day during the summer.

The expansion was supported by private donations and funds from the Portland Housing Authority.
