The fun has begun for everyone and the short and sweet spring sports season promises to be triumphant across the board.

Whether the sport is baseball, softball, lacrosse, tennis or track, local athletes have already made a mark.

Here’s a glimpse:

Baseball

Brunswick’s baseball team was 3-3 at press time. Last week, the Dragons beat visiting Lewiston (6-1) and lost at Brewer (2-1). Monday, Brunswick fell at home to Bangor, 4-3. After playing at Cony Tuesday, the Dragons host Hampden Academy Friday and welcome Edward Little Wednesday of next week.

Mt. Ararat started 0-5, which included losses at Skowhegan (5-0) and Mt. Blue (10-0) last week. After going to Oxford Hills Tuesday, the Eagles host Lewiston Friday, visit Brewer Monday and welcome Bangor Wednesday of next week.

In Western B, Morse defeated visiting Mt. View (5-3) and host Medomak Valley (6-1) last week, then fell to 2-3 after a 3-2 loss at Camden Hills Monday. After hosting Oceanside Friday, the Shipbuilders visit Gardiner Monday, they host Maranacook Wednesday.

Softball

Brunswick’s softball team got in the win column last Wednesday, beating visiting Lewiston, 12-0. Friday, the Dragons lost at Brewer, 16-4 and Monday, Brunswick lost to visiting Bangor, 16-0, to fall to 1-5. After playing at Cony Tuesday, the Dragons host Hampden Academy Friday and welcome Edward Little Wednesday of next week.

In Western B, Morse sandwiched wins over visiting Mt. View (11-10) and host Camden Hills (9-3) around a 15-10 loss at Medomak Valley. The 2-3 Shipbuilders host Oceanside Friday, visit Gardiner Monday, then host Maranacook Wednesday.

Boys’ lacrosse

Brunswick’s defending Eastern A champion boys’ lacrosse team continues to live up to billing, improving to 3-0 with a 19-12 win at Messalonskee last Friday. The Dragons were at Oxford Hills Tuesday and hosted Cony Thursday, play a compelling crossover game at two-time defending Eastern B champion Yarmouth Saturday (see theforecaster.net for game story) and visit Lewiston Wednesday of next week.

Mt. Ararat fell to 1-3 after losing at Lewiston (8-5) and at home to Edward Little (11-10). After going to Messalonskee Tuesday and hosting Oxford Hills Thursday, the Eagles visit Westbrook Friday.

Morse opened with a 12-8 home victory over Camden Hills, then lost, 11-10, to visiting Gardiner. The Shipbuilders were home with Oak Hill Tuesday, go to Massabesic Friday, welcome St. Dom’s Monday and visit Maranacook Wednesday of nest week.

Girls’ lacrosse

Brunswick’s girls’ lacrosse team got its first victory Monday, handling visiting Lewiston, 17-6, to improve to 1-2. After going to Messalonskee Thursday, the Dragons visit South Portland Friday and host Morse Monday.

Mt. Ararat won its first three, downing visiting Deering (16-11), host Gardiner (12-8) and visiting Lewiston (7-6). After going to Cony Thursday, the Eagles play at NYA Saturday and host Oxford Hills Tuesday.

Morse opened with a 12-9 home loss to Messalonskee, then doubled up Gardiner, 12-9. The Shipbuilders were at Lincoln Academy Thursday, go to Brunswick Monday and welcome Winslow Tuesday.

Outdoor track

Brunswick hosted Lewiston, Lisbon, Medomak Valley and Morse in an outdoor track meet Friday. The Dragons boys were second to Lewiston. The Shipbuilders came in fourth. In the girls’ competition, the teams finished in the same order.

Mt. Ararat joined Belfast and Mt. View at Edward Little. The Eagles were third in both genders.

Tennis

All three local boys’ tennis teams were unbeaten at press time. Morse started 6-0, Mt. Ararat was 5-0 and Brunswick 3-0 at press time. 

On the girls’ side, Brunswick was 4-0, Mt. Ararat 3-2 and Morse 4-2 at press time.
