SCARBOROUGH — Everett Preston Lovering, 98, died Feb. 9, at the Maine Veterans’ Home in Scarborough.

He was born in Brooklin, Aug. 15, 1915, the son of Everett L. and Emma Lovering. As a child, he spent time between Maine and Massachusetts.

Lovering enlisted in the U.S. Army and served during World War II. He was a very hard worker and good provider for his family. He enjoyed playing piano and organ and had an amazing ability to hear a song just one time and be able to sit down and play it himself. He also loved his time with his family and had a tradition of cooking blueberry pancakes for his wife and children.

He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Hazel Lovering, of South Portland; daughters, Kathleen Negley and husband Elwood, Linda Lovering, Priscilla Bushey and husband George, of Portland, and Ivy Martin, of Portland; son, Chris Lovering and wife Linnea, of South Portland; as well as five grandchildren and three great- grandchildren.

Arrangements are by Coastal Cremation Services. There will be a memorial service March 11, at 11 a.m. at the First Baptist Church in South Portland.
