CUMBERLAND — Evelyn Chatto Chase, 87, died May 10 at Coastal Manor in Yarmouth.

Born in Brooksville, Feb. 21, 1923, a daughter of Morris H. and Minnie Lou (Grant) Chatto, she attended Brooksville schools, and graduated from Farmington State Teachers College.

On June 30, 1950, she married Philip A. Chase of Cumberland.

She taught home economics at schools in Ashland, Waldoboro and in Cumberland at Greely Institute.

Her civic duty was important to her, and she served as Ballot Clerk for the Town of Cumberland; a member of the Cumberland Cemetery Association for 30 years; a charter member of the Cumberland Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary; a Red Network telephone operator for over 10 years; and an assistant dispatcher for Cumberland, Chebeague Island and North Yarmouth for 15 years.

Additionally, she was an active member of the Tuttle Road Methodist Church, and devoted much of her time to her local 4H club.

She enjoyed camping and listening to her husband play the organ.

Surviving are her husband of 59 years, Philip A. Chase of Cumberland Center; two daughters, Kathryn Haskell of Windham and Marcia Magdziarz of Weare, N.H.; and five grandchildren.

The family would like to express sincere appreciation to Gail Terison and the staff of Beacon Hospice and Coastal Manor for their outstanding care.

Arrangements are by Lindquist Funeral Home, 1 Mayberry Lane, Yarmouth.
