BRUNSWICK — Emma S. Smith, 86, died Jan. 27 at Mid Coast Senior Health Center. 

Born in Lewiston, July 11, 1923, she was the daughter of Frank and Angelina Deschenes Stebbins.

She attended Lisbon schools until she transferred to St. Joseph’s Academy, graduating in 1941. 

After two years of business college, she worked in a Lewiston bank during World War II.

On Dec. 25, 1945, she married John T. Smith and moved to Geneva, N.Y. while her husband attended Hobart College. After he graduated they moved to Boston and she worked at Boston Five-Cents Savings Bank.
 
In 1950 she moved to Brunswick and worked as a secretary at Hawthorne School for many years. She loved the children at the school and would often find time to talk with them.

Her greatest enjoyment was spending time with her family and playing games with her grandchildren at the family camp at Cobboseecontee Lake in Winthrop during the summer months.

After she retired, she spent 16 years at Running Start adult fitness program at Mid Coast Hospital and was a volunteer driver for cancer patients needing transportation to treatments.

She is survived by her husband; a son, John T. Smith, and his wife Clara of Hanover, Mass., a daughter, Kit Cope, and her husband Michael of Sharon, Mass.; four grandchildren, Stephanie and Rachel of Hanover, Mass., and Jeremy and Jason of Sharon, Mass..

Memorial services were held last week.

Arrangements are by Stetson’s Funeral Home, 12 Federal St., Brunswick.
