SCARBOROUGH — Ellen C. Gallant Steeves, 69, died Oct. 21 at the Gosnell Memorial Hospice House in Scarborough.

Born in Biddeford on Nov. 1, 1941, she was a daughter of Joseph H. and Adrienne Soule. She grew up in South Portland, graduating from South Portland High School and going on to attend the University of New England, attaining her bachelor’s degree in occupational therapy.

Before attending UNE, Ellen owned the Drapery Den in Scarborough and later worked at Maine Medical Center as a CNA. After she graduated from UNE, she moved to Florida and began working at Morton Plant Hospital and then worked the last several years as an in-home occupational therapist.

She is predeceased by her first husband Robert Gallant, son Craig Gallant, and sister Rita Butz.

Steeves is survived by her husband Timothy J. Steeves; children, Angela Paradis and her husband Richard, Robert Gallant Jr., Tereasa Cashman and her husband Brian, Joseph Gallant and his wife Kelley; daughter-in-law Isabel Gallant; step-children, Jack Steeves, Fred Steeves and his wife Heidi, DeeDee Gibson and her husband Ken; sisters Joyce Bailey and Priscilla Yerxa; 20 grandchildren; 3 great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

Visiting hours were held on Oct. 25 at Hobbs Funeral Home, 230 Cottage Rd., South Portland. A Mass of Christian Burial was held on Oct. 26 at St. John the Evangelist Church, 611 Main St., South Portland.
