YARMOUTH — Ellen A. Patterson, 89, died peacefully at home at Princes Point in Yarmouth, March 19.

She was born Aug. 27, 1924, to Alice Potter and Charles Hawkes, of Yarmouth. She graduated from Portland High School in 1942, then was employed at Crosby-Laughlin for 31 years.

She enjoyed watching the neighborhood children grow up, especially the Thompson kids, who she babysat from their birth. She enjoyed volunteer work at Maine Audubon in Falmouth for 15 years and also made the Good Friday Habitat Walk from 1996 to 2011. She enjoyed knitting things for her family and baking candy to give to the grandchildren at Christmas; needhams were her specialty.

Patterson was predeceased by her husband of 49 years, Donald E. Patterson, in 1996.

She is survived by her three children; son, Daniel Patterson and wife, Arlene; and daughters, Sally A. Small and Terry Patterson; five grandsons, Billy and Terry Small, Ronald and Al Spiller and Daniel Patterson Jr.; nine great-grandchildren, Amanda, Tyler and Caydence Small, Ashley Patterson, Josh Rand, Courtney, Lucas, and Jake and Jason Spiller; as well as two great-great-grandchildren, Madison Barrant and Seth Small.

An hour of visitation was held March 22, at First Baptist Church, Yarmouth. Pastor Ric Ochsner officiated. A reception followed in the church hall. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery later this spring.

The family would greatly appreciate, instead of flowers, that donations be given to the family to help with funeral expenses.
