SOUTH PORTLAND — Elena M. Charlton, 86, died Feb. 8, at Fallbrook Woods in Portland with her son by her side.

She was born in Portland, the daughter of Santo and Luisa Cereste Mancini. She attended local schools including Portland High School. She worked as a waitress at the Miss Portland Diner and at Boone’s Restaurant in Portland. She also worked in the production line at Fairchild Semiconductor. She was an avid participant in area bowling leagues, was a Red Cross volunteer and was a member of the South Portland VFW. She was also a long-time communicant of St. John the Evangelist Church.

She is survived by her son, Stewart J. Charlton, of South Portland; granddaughters, April Scruton, of Lebanon and Christina Baptiste; husband, Arnold Day, of Standish; brother, Leo Mancini, of Portland; and a niece, Maria Donatelli, of Portland.

Visitation was held at the Conroy-Tully Crawford South Portland Chapel, South Portland. Prayers recited at the chapel followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Maximilian Kolbe Church, Scarborough. Burial followed at Calvary Cemetery.
