BRUNSWICK — Eleanor S. Parody, 80, died Dec. 11 at her home. She was born in New York City and graduated from Bryant High School in Queens in 1949.  She worked as a medical secretary at New York Hospital, and later as secretary for the head of the chemical engineering department at the Cooper Union for the Advancement of Science and Art.  

It was there that she met her future husband, Charles. They raised four children together in Allendale, N.J., before moving to Brunswick in 1989. Besides her devotion to her family, she enjoyed  swimming in the Bowdoin pool and spending time with friends at the Bohemian Coffee House.

She is survived by her husband of 56 years, Charles; a sister, Elizabeth Lange; a son, Douglas; daughters Christina, Caroline and Jennifer; five grandchildren; a nephew, Walter Lange; a niece, Carla Rommel; two grand-nephews and a grand-niece. 

She was predeceased by her parents, Charles and Sophie (Biesinger) Bockelmann, and her sister, Margaret. 

A memorial service was held Dec. 20 at Stetson’s Funeral Home in Brunswick. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to CHANS Home Health Care, 60 Baribeau Drive, Brunswick, ME 04011. Memorial condolences may be expressed at stetsonsfuneralhome.com.
