WOOLWICH — Edward A. MacDonald, 67, of Woolwich, died unexpectedly Jan. 29, in a car accident on his way home from work.

MacDonald was born May 9, 1948, in Bath, to Harry J. and Evelyn Smith MacDonald. He was educated in Bath, graduating from Morse High School in 1967, and from SMVTI in 1969 with a degree in marine science.

MacDonald began his career at Wright Pierce in Topsham, later transitioning to the Pejepscot Paper Mill, where he worked as a wastewater treatment plant supervisor as well as the director of safety. MacDonald went to work for Northern General services in 1985, and spent the last 15 years of his career as the loss control manager at Maine Municipal Association. He was looking forward to his retirement on Feb. 12.

He was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed spending time with his two sons at his hunting camp in Orland. He was an avid supporter of the Great Pond Mountain Conservation Trust. MacDonald was very proud of his Scottish heritage and all things Scottish. For many years, he regularly attended the Maine Highland Games and the Scottish Festival. MacDonald and his wife Angela visited Scotland in 2012, and were looking forward to a return trip this spring. He also enjoyed following local sports teams, including the New England Patriots, the Boston Red Sox and University of Maine hockey.

The adage He lived by was, “There is a right way and wrong way to do things. Then there is Ed’s way.”

MacDonald is survived by his wife of 45 years; two sons, Ian, of Lewiston and Benjamin, of Bowdoinham; a daughter, Lindsay Daniels, of Richmond; five grandchildren, Kylie, Sebastian, Abigail, Evelyn and Alexander; a cousin, Steve MacDonald, of Rockland; and a sister-in-law, Christie Delong, of Woolwich.

Visiting hours will be 6-8 p.m. Friday, Feb. 5, at Daigle Funeral Home, 819 High St., Bath. A funeral service will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. at the funeral home. Burial will be at Oak Grove Cemetery in Bath in the spring.
