FREEPORT — The 19th annual Chowdah Challenge, hosted by Freeport Community Services, will begin at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 1

The event will take place at the L.L. Bean Discovery Park. Proceeds will benefit local families in need of food, heating fuel, rides to medical appointments and other social services.

Participating restaurants include Buck’s Naked Barbecue, Freeport Cafe, Freeport Chowder House, Gritty’s, Harraseeket Inn, Linda Bean’s Maine Kitchen and Topside Tavern, The Lobster Cooker, Jameson Tavern, the 1912 Cafe and Petrillo’s.

The cost is $10 for the chowder sampling and $3.50 for homemade pie and ice cream. For more information or directions call 865-3587 or visit www.fcsmaine.org.
