PORTLAND — The 1916 Easter Rising in Ireland will be remembered throughout the weekend at the Maine Irish Heritage Center, 34 Gray St.

At 7 p.m. Friday, April 22, St. Joseph’s College History Professor Michael Connolly will speak on the effects on Irish laborers of the rebellion against British rule. Connolly is also the author of a history of Irish immigration to Maine.

On Saturday, April 23, at 4 p.m., Fibin, an Irish theater group, will present “Pearse in Pictures,” a re-imagination of the Easter Rising. The performance be in English and Irish Gaelic.

At noon on Sunday, April 24, the proclamation of independence that began the rebellion will be read on the steps of Portland City Hall, in English and Irish Gaelic. The Claddagh Mhor Band will perform.

At 2 p.m. Sunday, “Stories of The Easter Rising” will be heard at the MIHC. For more information, visit maineirish.com
