The car, registered to Andrew J. Smith, 25, of Lisbon, continued on and struck a large rock before coming to rest in a field at the intersection of Shiloh and Deervale roads, according to a statement from the Androscoggin County Sheriff’s Office.

Rebecca L. Brown, 26, of Sabattus died at the scene. Smith and a woman in the car taken to a hospital with non life-threatening injuries, authorities said.

Neither Smith nor the other woman in the car, whom authorities have not identified, claims to have been driving at the time of the crash.

The vehicle was impounded and further examination of the passenger compartment will be conducted once a search warrant is obtained this week, according to the Androscoggin County Sheriff’s Office.

The Androscoggin County Sheriff’s Office was assisted at the scene by the Lisbon and Brunswick Police Departments, Durham Fire-Rescue, Lisbon Emergency and Brunswick Fire-Rescue. Anyone who may have information about the crash is urged to call Deputy Darian Nadeau at 207-753-2599.
