SCARBOROUGH — Duane Oliver Thomas, 84, of Florida and Scarborough, died May 25 following a brief illness, surrounded by his family.

He was born in Sherman Mills, a son of Hilbert and Julia Thomas. Thomas was a truck driver for much of his life, working for A&P and local oil companies. He was a longtime member of the Teamsters Union Local 340, a Shriner, and a Master Mason at Gov. William King Lodge in Scarborough. He also was an avid reader, and enjoyed spending time with his family.

Thomas is survived by his loving wife, Alta L. Thomas; his children, Kathe Jewett and husband Laughton, of Hamden, Paul Thomas, of Saco, Dixie Conley, of Casco, Duane Thomas Jr., of Marco Island, Fla., and Les Thomas, of Scarborough; and a sister, Thelma Perrin, of Sherman Mills. He is also survived by numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

A reception for friends and family to celebrate his life was held June 1 at The Cumberland Club, in Portland.
