PORTLAND — National Prescription Drug Take-Back Day will be held 10 a.m. -2 p.m. Saturday, April 28, at various locations across Maine.

The event, which is a program of the U.S. Drug Enforcement Agency, is designed to provide a safe, convenient and responsible means for disposing of prescription drugs, while also educating the general public about the potential for abuse.

At a take-back day this last fall, federal, state and local governmental agencies took back a record of more than 912,000 pounds of unused, expired, or unwanted drugs at more than 5,300 locations across the country, according to the DEA.
