BATH — Just in time for summer, the Hampton Inn opened downtown last weekend.

The 140 Commercial St. hotel has 94 rooms, a meeting room, 37 flat-screen high-definition TVs, high-speed Internet access, an indoor pool and spa and an “on-the-house” hot breakfast.

Developer Peter Anastos’ application to build the 55,000-square-foot hotel on the Prawer block received city approval in November 2008. Last June the City Council approved an amendment expanding the city’s downtown tax increment financing district to include the hotel.

The amendment added 2.4 acres to the existing district and was intended to capture new private-sector investment from the hotel.

The hotel is bounded by Front, Commercial and Summer streets.
