PORTLAND — The Maine Department of Transportation will host a meeting on Thursday, June 17, at the Howard Johnson Conference Center on Riverside Street to discuss the Maine Turnpike Exit 48 bridge reconstruction project set to begin next year.
Exit 48, formerly Exit 8, feeds traffic to Riverside Street and Brighton Avenue near the Westbrook city line.
One proposal would close the bridge for nine months and force all northbound exit ramp traffic to use Exit 47, Rand Road, until the bridge is replaced. Southbound ramps would be unaffected.
The other proposal is to keep the bridge at least partially open during the reconstruction, extending the project by 20 months and increasing the cost.
DOT officials will present the two plans in detail and take comments and questions from the public in the meeting that begins at 5:30 p.m.
