SOUTH PORTLAND — Dorothy Perry “Dot” Spear, 80, died March 26 surrounded by family at Maine Medical Center in Portland .

On June 4, 1929, she was born in South Portland, a daughter of Fredrick Harris and Doris Moody Perry and graduated from local schools.  

She married Willis M. Spear of South Portland and they built a home in Loveitt’s Field, where she lived the rest of her life.

For over 26 years she worked as a secretary at the First Parish Unitarian Church on Congress Street in Portland.

Over the years she volunteered as a Sunday school teacher, helped with voter registration and cancer awareness events.

She enjoyed playing bridge, traveling, and boating in Casco Bay with her beloved husband and friends.

During the holidays she would open her home and many people came to “Aunt Dot’s” for Thanksgiving and Christmas.

Her family was the source of her greatest enjoyment, both her immediate and extended family.

She knew the value of family and friends and drew great solace from her simple faith in God.

She was predeceased by her husband Willis M. Spear, two brothers, Fredrick H. Perry and Donald M. “Skeet” Perry, a sister, Beverly Andreasen and a grandson, Evans A Spear.

Survivors include her son, Willis Jr. and his wife Christine Spear of Yarmouth and daughter Cynthia and her husband Owen Doyle of Gorham; two sisters, Phyllis Dumont of Scarborough and Geraldine Campbell of Mansfield, Mass.; and five grandsons, Willis Spear, Marshall Spear and his wife Rebecca, Jedediah Spear, Nathan Doyle and Seth Doyle.

Memorial services were held earlier this week.

Arrangements are by Hobbs Funeral Home, 230 Cottage Road, South Portland.
