TOPSHAM — Dorothy M. Coombs, 95, died Aug. 19.
On April 19, 1915, she was born in Brunswick, a daughter of Ernest E. Atkins, Sr. and Minnie L. Griffin Atkins and attended local schools, graduating from Brunswick High School in 1933.
Prior to marrying William H. Coombs on April 18, 1935, she worked at F. W. Woolworth.
In 1952, she began working at the Navy Exchange at the Brunswick Naval Air Station until retiring as office manager in 1975.
She enjoyed spending time at the family camp at Moosehead, boating, fishing, hunting, traveling and was an avid reader.
She was predeceased by her husband William on June 9, 1981; and two sisters, Evelyn Marriner and Margaret Smith.
Surviving are her two daughters, Patricia A. Hackett and her husband William E. Hackett of Brunswick, and Barbara L. Toennies and her husband James of Erie, Penn.; two sisters, Ruth Crosman and Betty McNary, both of Topsham; a brother, Ernest E. Atkins, Jr., of Scottsdale, Ariz.; five grandchildren, William E. Hackett of Wallingford, Penn., Cindy-Lou Tracy and Jody L. Surace, both of Topsham, and William and John Bushelman of Mesa, Ariz.; nine great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
A graveside funeral service will be held on Tuesday, Sept. 7, at Rogers Cemetery, Cathance Road, Topsham.
