BRUNSWICK — Doris Wagg Parsons, 94, died Oct. 11 at Mid Coast Hospital. She was born in Durham on Aug. 5, 1918, the daughter of Herbert J. and Mabel Owen Wagg, and then grew up in Auburn.

Parsons graduated from Edward Little High School in 1935 and Bates College in 1939. She married Edward L. Parsons July 4, 1942. He predeceased her on Feb. 19, 2008.

Parsons taught school in Auburn and in Brunswick, where she taught at Longfellow School and Brunswick Junior High School and served as principal of Longfellow and Hawthorne schools.  

She was a lifelong gardener, and for several years she and her husband ran a small plant business from their home on Maine Street. Parsons also wrote a gardening column for the local newspaper.  

After her retirement, she volunteered at the library and a hospice program. She was a member of First Parish Church and was actively involved in church affairs for many years. She also was an avid Red Sox fan. 

For the past few years, Parsons was limited in her mobility but not limited in her mind. Even as she aged, she always remembered to tell her daughter to go home and take care of her dog, Spenser Banjo.

She is survived by her son Edward Jr., of Smithfield, Penn.; son Timothy and his wife, Nancy, of Denver; daughter Mary, of Brunswick; son Brian, of Kirtland, Ohio; three grandchildren Lindsey Fowler and her husband, Jon, Eric Parsons and Chris Parsons, both of Marietta, Ohio; a sister in law, Sylvia Parsons Rose, of Brunswick; three nieces, Blanche Wagg Hays and her husband Carl, of Batavia, Ill., Jane Wagg Webb and her husband, Jack, of Springvale and Barbara Pelkey and her husband, Bill, of Topsham; and many grand-nieces and nephews.   

In accordance with her wishes, there will be no memorial service or visitation. A private graveside service will be held at a later time.  

Memorial donations may be made to the Curtis Memorial Library, 23 Pleasant St., Brunswick, ME 04011; First Parish Church, 9 Cleaveland St., Brunswick , ME 04011; or any other charity that would be meaningful for the donor.    

Arrangements are in the care of the Brackett Funeral Home, Brunswick.
