FALMOUTH — Doris Louise Gardner Anderson, 98, died Jan. 7.

She was born in Minneapolis, Minn., to Harry and Inga Iverson Gardner.

Her life was devoted to supporting her husband, Clifford, who died in 2006, and her family and friends. She was loved by all who knew her and she was gentle, kind and selfless.

Early in her 66 years of marriage, she endured the heavy demands of caring for her second son, Terry Clifford, during his brief 18-month life with severe cerebral palsy.

As the wife of an FBI Special Agent, she moved from Minnesota and established new homes in El Paso, Texas, and Cincinnati, Ohio.

While raising her family she was active in Scouting and school parent support activities. Upon retirement she and her husband returned to Minnesota to enjoy the company of family and friends during the summers and spent 33 winters in Clearwater, Fla.

The pair relocated to Ocean View Retirement Community in 2000 to be closer to family.

She was an excellent seamstress and cook. Besides church, her other life passions included gardening, baking, knitting and exercised. She enthusiastically participated in social activities such as “Wisdom Teas” and the Naughty Knitters. She walked a mile nearly every morning until she turned 97.

She was predeceased by her son, Terry Clifford; husband, Clifford; and brothers Rolland and Kenneth Gardner.

She is survived by her son, Larry Anderson and his wife, Janie Nast Anderson and their daughter Shari Anderson Karkowski and her husband, Richard; six grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

The family would like to thank the staff at Falmouth House and Hospice of Southern Maine for their care at the end of her life.

A memorial service was held Jan. 12 at the Falmouth Congregational Church. She and her husband will be buried at the Fort Snelling National Cemetery in Minneapolis in May.
