This November, voters have a historic opportunity to invest $49 million in the University of Maine System by voting yes on Question 4 on the statewide ballot.

Bond campaign signs urge “Vote Yes 4 Maine’s Workforce.” Unfortunately, in Yarmouth a controversial local rent control referendum is also Question 4 on the municipal ballot. Please don’t be confused by the “Stop the Madness” signs in Yarmouth – they have nothing to do with the university bond.

Voting Yes 4 Maine’s Workforce will increase capacity to produce more of the skilled and professional graduates needed to ameliorate Maine workforce crisis. It has broad support statewide, including by the Portland Regional Chamber. Half the funding would go to investments at USM.

Don’t confuse rent control in Yarmouth with investing in Maine’s workforce through support of our public universities. As chair of the University System’s board of trustees, I ask voters to join me in voting YES 4 Maine’s Workforce.
