SCARBOROUGH — Donald Oscar Auger, 87, died peacefully on Nov. 25 at Piper Shores in Scarborough.

Auger was born in Malden, Mass., on May 15, 1926, to Oscar and Diana Auger. He was raised in Malden, and entered the U.S. Navy in 1944, serving in the Pacific Theater for two years.

After returning home, he attended Northeastern University and earned a bachelor’s degree in 1952. He then worked as an engineer for many years, retiring from Verizon in 1990.

He married Ruth Cornell in August 1960, and the couple made their home in suburban Boston. In his spare time, Auger was a member of Cambridge Boat Club, serving as its president from 1968-1970. Later in his life, he served on the vestry of St. Mary’s Episcopal Church in Newton Lower Falls, Mass.

Auger’s lifelong dream was to live in Maine, and that dream was realized in 2007 when he and his wife moved to South Portland. The couple then moved to Scarborough in 2008. Auger enjoyed his time in Maine, especially visiting lighthouses with his wife and spending time with family and friends.

He was predeceased by his sisters, Diana J. Auger and Barbara Auger Balcom; and his brother- in-law, Manning L. Balcom.
