BRUNSWICK — Donald D. Goodenow Sr., 68, died March 10 at Mid Coast Hospital.

He was born on Feb. 14, 1944, in Brunswick, the son of Stephen S. Sr. and Grace Libby Goodenow. He attended Brunswick schools and worked for the town of Brunswick, Nickerson Trucking and finally at Eastland Shoe, where he retired in 2008.

Goodenow loved camping, riding motorcycles, horse racing, watching wrestling and listening to Elvis music. He was a quiet, simple man who worked hard and will be terribly missed by his neighbors who relied on him to be their handyman, tinkerer and snow blower.

He especially enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren. For the past seven years he proudly walked in the Relay for Life as a cancer survivor who tirelessly made it through this year’s relay even though he was sick.

He is survived by his partner, Brenda J. Cook of Brunswick; daughter Donnette Goodenow and her husband, Richard Graves, of Harpswell; sons Donald Goodenow Jr. and his wife, Laurie, of New Gloucester and Darrell Goodenow of Brunswick; brothers Clinton “Ken” Goodenow and his wife, Judy, of Freeport, Steve Rowe and his wife, Elaine, of Brunswick and Gerry Goodenow and his wife, Ann, of Brunswick; sister Ellie Aloisio and her husband, Norman, of Brunswick; five grandchildren, Ben, Ricky and Tara Graves of Harpswell, Keshia McLean of Virginia and Gabrielle Goodenow of Bath; great-grandchild, Ian McLean of Virginia; his loving dog, Peaches; and several nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by a brother, Stephen Goodenow Jr.

Visiting hours were held on March 15 at Stetson’s Funeral Home, 12 Federal St., Brunswick.
