SCARBOROUGH ? Dennis J. McGrath, 56, of Scarborough, passed away Oct. 14 in a diving accident in Portland. A lifelong mariner, he spent every day of his life in the place he loved, doing what he loved.

McGrath leaves behind so many friends and countless stories, but his main focus in life was always his family.

McGrath, a 1978 graduate of Freeport High School, was a familiar and beloved face to many on the Portland waterfront. He also had a wonderful gift for growing things, both indoors and out. A visit to see him would always come with an invitation to try his blueberries or see the tomatoes.

He is survived by his wife and two children and his mother, Claudia, all of Scarborough; two brothers, Steve, of Fort Lauderdale, Florida, and Joey, of Chicago.

A time of visitation was held Oct. 15, at the A.T. Hutchins Funeral and Cremation Services in Portland. A Celebration of Life will be held at the funeral home on Friday at 2 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in McGrath’s memory to http://bit.ly/1G6eLtB.
