n-yardenningbench1-062509.jpgJordan Denning, brother of the late Hanley Denning, founder of Safe Passage, places a small stone inscribed with Hanley’s name on it on a new memorial bench at Yarmouth High School on June 18. Friends and relatives of Hanley Denning helped dedicate the memorial and shared stories of her courage, compassion and spirit. The project, which was spearheaded by student Jake Gallagher, features plants that reflect Hanley’s spirit and courage, the bench and a path made with stones from Guatemala and Yarmouth. Denning founded Safe Passage in 1999 to help the poorest children living and working in the Guatemala City garbage dump.
