YARMOUTH — Dean A. Lavers, 58, died Monday, Nov. 29, after a long and courageous battle with cancer.

Born April 12, 1952, in Brunswick, son of John and Erva Lavers, he was a longtime resident of Freeport and educated in Freeport schools.

Under the guidance of the late Maynard Smith of Freeport, he obtained his electrician’s license and had a long career that took him up and down the East Coast and as far away as the United Kingdom.

While growing up in South Freeport, he developed a lifelong love of the ocean. He enjoyed being outdoors, and hiked his favorite mountain, Bradbury Mountain, and visited the family camp on the Swift River.

The family would like to thank Dr. Polkinghorn, Susan Trafton, P.A., Susy, Sandy, and the entire staff at the Maine Center for Cancer Medicine at Mid-Coast Hospital in Brunswick.

His parents, John and Erva Lavers, predeceased him.

A wonderful and supportive father, he will be greatly missed by his daughter Nicole Stebbins, her husband Ed, and their children, James and Sarah, all of Cumberland; his son Joshua Lavers and his children Sage and Ethan, all of Fort Wayne, Ind.; a sister, Sharon Harrison and her husband Kenneth of Poland, and four brothers, Paul, Scott, and Michael, all of Freeport, and John of Wales; a niece, Carissa, and four nephews, Jared, Todd, Kenny and Jason.

A memorial service will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 5, at the First Parish Congregational Church, 40 Main St., Freeport. All are welcome to attend.

Memorial donations may be made to The Dean Snell Foundation, which provides financial assistance to people suffering from cancer, c/o Maine Center for Cancer Medicine, 81 Medical Center Dr., Brunswick, ME 04011.
