RANGELEY — Dawn Elizabeth Newell, 45, of Yarmouth, died in a snowmobile accident on Dec. 30 while riding in Rangeley.

She was born April 12, 1967 in Fort Knox, Ky., to Bruce and Judie Hathaway. She grew up and went to school in Yarmouth, graduating in 1985 from Yarmouth High School.

Newell was previously married to Ronnie Newell and the pair lived in Durham with their son Kyle.

She received her associate’s degree in criminal justice from Andover College and worked as a dispatcher for the Cumberland and Yarmouth Police Departments.

An avid ATV, snowmobile and motorcycle rider, she was an active member of the Ridin’ Steel Motorcycle Club. She frequently participated in motorcycle rides for various causes and charities. She loved hanging out with her friends, but her life revolved around her son, Kyle.

Although she was severely injured in an earlier snowmobile accident, she never complained or let her disabilities slow her down. She always had a smile on her face and was cheerful, outgoing and the epitome of “girls just want to have fun.” She lived her life her way and lived it to the fullest.

Newell is survived by her son, Kyle; her father, Bruce Hathaway; her mother, Judie Bayles; her brothers, Brett and Ryan Hathaway; and her sister, Katlyn Dennis.

A celebration of Newell’s life was held Jan. 7 at Lindquist Funeral Home. Memorial donations may be made to: Susan G. Komen for the Cure, P.O. Box 1626, Bangor, ME 04402.
