TOPSHAM — David William Valek, 66, died Sept. 8 at Mid Coast Hospital after a short illness.

Born in Minneapolis, Minn., on July 3, 1944, he was a son of Richard and Ella Hanson Valek.

On Sept. 30, 1967, he married Judy Martin.

For 22 years he served in the United States Navy until retiring in 1984.

An avid bowler, he was a member of The Maine State National Bowling Hall of Fame and a longtime member of the Brunswick Area Bowling Association.

He also enjoyed spending quality time with his family, golf, cribbage, trains and traveling.

Surviving are his wife Judy Valek of Topsham; three children, Rhonda Guptill and her husband Mike of Brunswick, Kimberly Valek-Molnar and her husband Pete of Richmond, and Richard Valek and his wife Cathy of Bowdoinham; seven grandchildren, Leyna, Lauren and Adam Valek, Alexis and Joshua Guptill, and Andrew and Jacob Molnar; a brother, Robert Valek of Mesa, Ariz., and a sister, Deborah Williams of Colorado Springs, Colo.

Memorial services were held earlier this week.

Arrangements are by Stetson’s Funeral Home, 12 Federal St., Brunswick.
