TOPSHAM — David L. Pitt died June 16 at the Midcoast Senior Health Center.

He was born Dec. 29, 1924, in Worcester, Mass., the son of Lester and Ruth (Candlin) Pitt.

He attended Wesleyan University in Connectictut until he was inducted into the U.S. Navy Air Corps in 1943.

He married Mary Greet Geron on Nov. 16, 1945.

After his service in the Navy, he returned to Wesleyan and graduated in February, 1948. He earned a master’s degree from MIT in 1956.

For 33 years, he worked for the New England Telephone and Telegraph Company, retiring to Brunswick in 1981.

He enjoyed building and renovating homes, building boats, and making fine furniture for family members and his second home in Denmark.

His favorite boat was his beloved 38-foot “Harvest,” in which he and friends took numerous trips along the Atlantic Coast, the Gulf of Mexico, through the Great Lakes and the St. Lawrence River. Over the years, he and his wife enjoyed numerous trips to Bermuda and Europe.

He is survived by his wife, Mary of Topsham; four children, Leslie Russo and husband, Philip of Halifax, Mass., Ellen Barry and husband, John of North Carolina, and Christine Pitt of Georgetown, Mass., and David L. Pitt Jr., of Swanville; four grandchildren, Alex Barry and wife, Jessica of Old Town, Lindsay Russo and her partner, Brian Bragg of Rockland, Mass., Heather Baines and her husband, Cole of South Thomaston, and Stephen Pitt of Rockland; great-granddaughter, Kayla Candlin Baines; brother, Robert Pitt and his wife, Coleen of Granville, Ohio.

A celebration of life was held last week.

Arrangements are by Brackett Funeral Home, 29 Federal St., Brunswick.
