SOUTH PORTLAND — Dana Phillip Stewart, 62, died suddenly in Portland on Aug. 27.

Stewart was born in Portland to Edna and Russell Stewart Oct. 26, 1950. He was a lifelong Maine resident and attended South Portland schools.

Stewart started working at 14 at Shorty’s Chevron Station. He was very particular about keeping his cars clean, going as far as waxing the seats. Stewart eventually owned his own filling station. Tinkering with cars was a hobby and Stewart was able to take a car apart and put it back together again without much difficulty.

As an animal lover, Stewart was the K-9 officer for the South Portland Police Department in his early years. He started a two-way radio installation company, installing phones and two-way radios in police and fire vehicles.

He was a member of the volunteer fire department at the Pleasantdale, South Portland fire house. He was also a member of the Portland and South Portland Eagles.

He loved country music, the oldies, and Elvis. He enjoyed every funny movie that he saw, regardless of how silly they may have been.
