BRUNSWICK — Travelers this weekend may encounter delays because the annual American Lung Association Trek Across Maine bicycle ride takes place Friday, June 14, through Sunday, June 16, on a new course through the Midcoast.

The Trek begins at 7 a.m. at the Brunswick Recreation Center and will continue through Freeport, Lewiston, Belgrade, Waterville, Augusta and Bath. There are expected to be approximately 1,400 cyclists and 700 volunteers traveling 180 miles.

The event is expected to raise more than $1.3 million for lung disease research, education and advocacy.

The first leg of the Trek will end on Friday at 3 p.m. at Bates College in Lewiston. The ride will resume Saturday, June 15, at 7 a.m., when cyclists will travel to Colby College in Waterville and retire for the day at about 3 p.m. The Trek will end Sunday, June 16, where it began, at the Brunswick Recreation Center, at approximately 3 p.m.
