CUMBERLAND — The Town Council on Monday unanimously authorized a cell tower lease agreement with Verizon, and the purchase of land adjacent to the Town Forest.

The tower, which would be built at the Val Halla maintenance building, also needs site plan approval from the Planning Board.

The panel also authorized Town Manager Bill Shane to sign an agreement to acquire land off Tuttle Road for $40,000. The 13.1-acre parcel is owned by Maine Central Railroad Co.

The land is largely open fields, and a use for it has not been determined.
