CUMBERLAND — Connie Russell, the 2018 Cumberland County Teacher of the Year, is a finalist for Maine Teacher of the Year.

The Cumberland resident, a teacher for 27 years at Mabel I. Wilson Elementary School in School Administrative District 51, is one of three finalists for 2019 Maine Teacher of the Year, according to a Tuesday press release from the Maine Department of Education.

The others are Joseph Hennessey, a grade 11-12 teacher at Piscataquis Community High School, and Shana Goodall, a who teaches grades 9-12 at Orono High School.

The 2019 Teacher of the Year will be chosen in October after school site visits and final interviews.
