CUMBERLAND — A high school assistant principal and middle school principal are among the changes for the school year that begins in about three weeks – that’s right, before Labor Day – in School Administrative District 51.

The SAD 51 Board of Directors last week hired Jayme Jones as assistant principal at Greely High School. Jones replaces Mar-E Trebilcock, whom the School Board selected in July to be principal at Greely Middle School.

Jones has most recently worked in Raymond, N.H., where she was assistant principal at the high and elementary school levels.

Superintendent Robert Hasson praised Jones’ “focus on students, student achievement, school climate,” as well as her ability to “analyze data and put it in a form that’s consumable by teams of people, and her professed and demonstrated knowledge around ensuring that every … student is successful. She’s very, very impressive.”

Jones said she has heard “nothing but great things about the school culture,” and that the SAD 51 community is closely knit with strong school spirit. “Everybody works to support one another,” she said. “… Those are all positive things that I was looking to be a part of my next step in my journey.”

Trebilcock, a Topsham resident, was assistant principal at Greely High School for the past three years. She replaces Kimberly Brandt, who left the job to become assistant superintendent of schools in Regional School Unit 16.

Trebilcock joined SAD 51 in 2002 to teach math and science at Greely Middle School. She served as dean of students at the high school for a semester prior to becoming assistant principal.

Also new to the district is Julie Olsen, who replaced Ann Nunery a month ago as SAD 51’s new special education director and was assistant director of special services in Regional School Unit 21.

Olsen brings “a new perspective to special education, and has been immediately involved with kids and families and teachers,” Hasson said.

The district continues to focus on the Common Core, a state set of educational standards for mathematics and English language arts, as well as SAD 51’s Response to Intervention initiative, the superintendent said. Work also continues on the district’s teacher evaluation system.

The district is also focused on the transition coming with the closure next year of North Yarmouth Memorial School and relocation of those students to an expanded Greely Middle School, Hasson said.

School starts in Cumberland and North Yarmouth on Wednesday, Aug. 28, for grades one through 12, and Tuesday, Sept. 3, for kindergarten.
