CUMBERLAND — With a referendum Nov. 4 to decide whether to borrow up to $3 million to purchase beach property off Foreside Road, the Town Council is holding a series of site walks to familiarize the public with the parcel.

Upcoming walks are scheduled for Saturday, Sept. 13, 8:30-9:30 a.m.; Monday, Sept. 15, 4:45-6 p.m.; Saturday, Sept. 20, 9:15-10 a.m., and Sunday, Sept. 21, 2-3 p.m. Participants must be escorted by town officials to the property by bus, which will load at 179 Foreside Road. An informational meeting on the matter will be held Oct. 6.

The purchase of the property, including nearly 14 acres of shoreline property and almost nine acres of forest, would satisfy a long-time goal of the town to provide public waterfront access. Funds for the purchase would be bonded over 20 years, at a cost of $240,000 a year.
