PORTLAND — Cumberland County has received a nearly $440,000 grant from the U.S. Department of Justice to aid responders to sexual assault and domestic violence incidents.

The grant goes to the county’s Violence Intervention Partnership, and will help enhance partnerships between criminal justice agencies, victim service providers, and community organizations that respond to crimes.

VIP was launched in 1998. Since then, it has secured nearly $4 million in grants from the DOJ’s Office of Violence Against Women to enhance victim safety, hold offenders accountable and strengthen community response to sexual assault and domestic violence in Cumberland County.
